ExoShield ULTRA: How It Saved David’s Windshield on an Epic Alaska Road Trip

|

If you’re planning a big road trip, especially to somewhere as rugged and wild as Alaska, you know preparation is everything. For David White, a Bronco enthusiast and adventurer, that meant making sure his vehicle was ready for anything the road might throw at it - literally.

David recently spoke with Amal from the ExoShield marketing team to share his experience using ExoShield ULTRA Kit, a windshield protection film that proved invaluable during his 11,000-mile road trip. His story highlights how a simple precaution, like safeguarding your windshield, can make a huge difference on a challenging adventure.

Here's how the conversation began.

Why Alaska?

“I’ve wanted to go to Alaska since I was a little kid reading adventure books,” David shared. When he and his wife decided it was finally time, they didn’t do it the usual way. “Most people go on cruises, but we’re into camping and the Bronco lifestyle now, so we wanted to drive.”

The plan was a five-week road trip, with friends joining along the way. They loaded up their Bronco, hooked up a little trailer, and hit the road. What they didn’t fully realize, though, was how tough Alaska’s roads can be, especially on windshields.

The Problem with Bronco Windshields

During his trip planning, David joined several Bronco Facebook groups and kept hearing the same story: “You’re going to break a windshield on the Alaska Highway; everyone breaks a windshield.” Apparently, it’s a rite of passage, and the Bronco’s flat windshield makes it even more vulnerable.

“When we went to Alaska, one of our side trips was the Dempster Highway, a 600-mile gravel road stretching from Dawson City in the Yukon to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean,” David explained. “On roads like that, you’re almost guaranteed to break a windshield.”

Through those Facebook groups, David discovered the ExoShield ULTRA Kit and decided to invest. “I didn’t want to spend five weeks staring through a cracked windshield,” he said, “or shell out $1,000 to replace it.”

Finding ExoShield ULTRA Kit

After learning about ExoShield Ultra Kit in Facebook groups, David researched it further, read reviews, and decided to give it a try. “I couldn’t find a local installer near me, so I ordered the do-it-yourself kit,” David explained.

While he originally planned to install it himself, he ended up asking a local auto detailer to do it. “The guy who installed it didn’t have any trouble. The only thing we noticed at first was some blotchiness, but after parking it in the sun for a few days, it cleared up just like the instructions said it would.”

Putting ExoShield ULTRA to the Test

The real test for ExoShield ULTRA came on the trip itself. One of the side adventures David and his wife tackled was the Dempster Highway, a 600-mile gravel road leading to the Arctic Ocean.

“On that road, rocks are just flying everywhere,” David said. “At least three big ones hit the windshield really hard. You could hear it, and you could even see the divots in the film afterward. But the windshield underneath? Totally fine.”

David’s confidence in the product was sealed when he compared this to his past experience. “Without ExoShield ULTRA, there’s no way the windshield would have survived. It gave me peace of mind, especially since we were in such remote areas. There’s nowhere to fix a windshield out there if something happens.”

The Long-Term Results

After 11,000 miles on the Alaska trip and another 4,000 since then, David’s ExoShield ULTRA is still holding up. “It has a few marks from those big rocks, but they’re barely noticeable, and it’s way better than a cracked windshield.”

David also noted how much easier it was to focus on the trip itself without worrying about unexpected expenses. “Bronco windshields are flat and expensive to replace. This saved me a lot of money and stress.”

Would He Recommend It?

“Definitely,” David said. “I’ve already told my friends about it, and I’ve posted in the Facebook groups. I know there are other products out there, but this one worked for me. I’d use it again in a heartbeat.”

What’s Next for David?

With the Alaska trip under their belts, David and his wife are already planning their next adventure. “We’re hoping to go to Newfoundland next year. After that, maybe another trip back to Alaska.”

For David, the ExoShield Ultra Kit is now a must-have for any big trip. “It just works. I didn’t have to spend the whole trip staring through a cracked windshield, and that made all the difference.”
